I am Nicholas Garret Young. I am currently a Senior at Hurricane High School and plan on attending Marshall University in the Fall to Pursue a Degree in Education so I can teach History. In High School over the past four years I have been a member of multiple clubs and extracurricular activities like: Track and Field, Show Choir, Student Government and Beta Club. I am also employed as a Cashier at the Hurricane Walmart since August 20th of 2019.
  • I am not bought by any Special Interest Groups
  • I plan to vote based on what District 22 wants
  • I do not desire to become a Career Political in the State
I personally believe that for a Republic to flourish you must have Term Limits across the Board - not only for the Presidency but also for the Senate and House and even State Legislature. That's why I signed the Team Limits Pledge and plan to support any Legislation that would come to my desk. I think that this State needs to also put a Greater Focus on the Trades Programs in High Schools across the State, it takes time and money for a lot of High Schoolers to work their way up and Business Incentives are just what we need to not only Increase the Amount of Trades we have but also bring about a Diverse Range of Jon Opportunities for West Virginians everywhere, sometimes College doesn't fit and that's okay - they'll have a home in the Trades Program. I also believe there is a big Mental Health Crisis in this State that needs a Proper Response and as a High Schooler I can tell you first hand that many Students do not have the Adequate resources to take charge, that's why if elected I want to work with other Delegates to bring Good Legislation that can not only help Students but also Veterans and the Mentally Unwell.
I look up to my Dad and Mom, they have fought hard their entire life to make sure that we can live comfortably and I really love them for it and hope to have the same Commitment that they have later in Life.
I believe that the most important characteristics for any Elected Official are Honestly, Integrity and Loyalty.
I believe the core responsibility for any Legislator Is to make yourself available to your Constituents, having you're voice heard is the most important part of the Job.
I want to leave a Legacy of Fighting for the Average Man and showing that regardless of Age that a Man or Women can serve their State to the Fullest. I want to show that anyone can become a Politician and fight for your beliefs regardless of the Struggle that it takes to run a Campaign.
I remember the 2008 Presidential Elections, I had saw some clips from I think a Presidential Debate on the TV.
I am currently a Cashier at the Hurricane Walmart, been there since August of 2019.
The Mole by Peter Warner. I loved the book and the struggle Winston Bates went through, I recommend it to anyone interested in the Cold War.
I think it depends on the Position really, but generally I think any Citizen should be able to run for the Position they want to be in.
I would say our greatest Challenges to overcome are the Drug Epidemic that we are facing and also the Massive Amount of People we lose each other.
I think for a State to Function the Governor and State Legislature must look past petty Political Lines and work together, because that's the first thing you learn in School and at Work. You must work with People you dislike and that's the same thing in Government, so I'd say I would want the Governor and State Legislature to have a Cooperative Relationship.
I think it's definitely useful to build relationships with other legislators, Mainly because in some instances you may not have the experience in certain fields like in Education or Taxes that you're Colleague May have and to have a Positive Relationship with them you could then work together to write Legislation that would help people across the State.
The Committees I'm interested in if I was elected are:

1. Senior, Children, and Family Issues
2. Government Organization

3. Health and Human Services
I would only join as a Member of the Leadership if the entire Chamber thought I was qualified and if I wasn't then I'd gladly step out of the way for a more experienced member.
I'm focused on the House of Delegates right now but I would definitely want to serve my State in Congress or as its Governor.
