Nick Gerhart
Nick Gerhart is a former Iowa Commissioner of Insurance. He was appointed by Gov. Terry Branstad (R) on June 15, 2012. Gerhart began transitioning into the Department in the fall of 2012 but did not assume full responsibilities until February 1, 2013.[1] Gerhart resigned from the office effective December 23, 2016. He was replaced by Doug Ommen.[2]
Gerhart replaced incumbent Susan Voss, who retired at the end of 2012.
Biography
After earning his law degree, Gerhart was an associate at Nell & Associates, S.C. from 2002 to October 2003. In November 2003 he joined the American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company, where he would serve as Associate Corporate Counsel, Vice President and Associate General Counsel, and Vice President of Compliance Communications. Leaving that role in December 2010, Gerhart became Vice President of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs at Sammons Financial Group in January 2011. He was working in this position when he was named as Iowa Insurance Commissioner in June 2012.[3][4]
