In his time as a Councilmember and Mayor, Nick has played a key role in passing the city’s most robust greenhouse gas reduction plan, outlining a path to carbon neutrality for the city; helped implement policies that used resources and treatment to humanely reduce the city’s homeless population by 10%, and was able to help reduce crime by 10%. As a staunch advocate for housing affordability, Nick voted for more than 1,000 new units of housing in Burbank, including creating more housing for low and very low income Californians than had been created over the last ten years. Nick currently serves as a Deputy Attorney General with the Special Prosecutions Section of the Attorney General’s Office with the California Department of Justice, where he works with local, state, and federal law enforcement officials to investigate and prosecute criminal cases primarily related to public corruption, officer involved shootings, human trafficking, mortgage fraud, tax evasion, and other forms of financial fraud.
Nick, and his wife Allie, an attorney in the entertainment industry, reside in the historic Rancho neighborhood of Burbank.
- PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT - Nick believes that every Californian has a fundamental right to clean air, clean water, and to be free from toxic substances. As an Assemblymember, Nick will take aggressive action to address the climate crisis and will pursue environmental policies that are effective and equitable for all Californians.
- HOUSING AFFORDABILITY - Nick is ready to take strong and decisive action to reduce the costs of housing. As a Councilmember, Nick has taken bold steps to address his city's housing shortage. He is committed to protecting renters and increasing housing opportunities for all.
- ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY - In one of the world's largest economies, Nick believes far too many Californians are left behind. Nick will work to raise wages, address deep poverty, encourage investment in emerging technology, support organized labor, and explore new incentives for entrepreneurship.
To me, a good Governor is a steward of policy, providing resources and direction on proposed legislation while the Legislature serves as the idea factory having bold, big, conversations about.
Housing Affordability - I’m ready to take strong and decisive action to reduce the costs of housing. As a Councilmember, I have taken bold steps to address his city's housing shortage. I am committed to protecting renters and increasing housing opportunities for all.
Economic Opportunity - I will also work to raise wages, address deep poverty, encourage investment in emerging technology, support organized labor, and explore new incentives for entrepreneurship.
Caring For Californians - I will fight for universal healthcare & world class education systems for all Californians. In the Legislature, I will support policies that expand access to quality education and ensure universal coverage for all who call our state home.
Protecting Our Environment - I believe that every Californian has a fundamental right to clean air, clean water, and to be free from toxic substances. As an Assemblymember, I will take decisive action to address the climate crisis and will pursue environmental policies that are effective and equitable for all Californians.
Elected during the height of the pandemic, I worked to protect the public health of our community and helped ensure proper PPE supplies for our workers and the public; passed landmark “Hero Pay” legislation, in close partnership with organized labor, requiring that frontline grocery workers received fair compensation for putting their lives at risk during a public health crisis; and worked with my colleagues and the city to provide over $1,000,000 in aid to our tenants and businesses.
I have helped bring major progressive change to a historically conservative city as a young Democrat.
As a Deputy Attorney General, I have been a progressive prosecutor. I helped lead the charge to create the first-of-its-kind Post-Conviction Review Unit at the Department of Justice, which will review claims of innocence and wrongful conviction for any cases handled by the State. This will be the first time individuals making claims of wrongful convictions will be able to have their voices heard.
I distinctly remember a young mother who came to City Hall. She brought her daughter. I could see and feel her fear and anxiety as she worried about where theyd soon sleep at night. That story still haunts me to this day.
I am proud to say that I inherited a city budget with a recurring general fund deficit in 2020, but was able to turn the deficit into a recurring surplus in a little Less than two years. Given the forecasted state budget deficit, I believe that my experience managing a large city budget to the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and turning a deficit to a surplus, will be very valuable experience in our state capital.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
