Nick is a father, attorney, community volunteer, and nonprofit board member. After receiving an undergraduate degree in Economics, Nick attended law school where he wrote his thesis on the right to early childhood education under state constitutions. He has worked as a law clerk to a Federal Judge, in private practice at Kutak Rock, and as in-house counsel where he digs into the details of contracts, budgets, and employee benefits. He has volunteered and sat on the board of numerous child-focused non-profits including Project Harmony, Child Saving Institute, Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance, and the Nebraska Foster Care Review Office.
  • At its core, the responsibility of the OPS School Board is to provide oversight of the operations and finances of the district and to ensure accountability to parents, students, and taxpayers. As an attorney, advisor to businesses, and non-profit board member, Nick is no stranger to diving into the details and asking tough questions. But Nick will also promote civility and consensus-building on the board and a culture of open and honest feedback to OPS administrators. Now more than ever, we need adults in the room that have the knowledge and experience to guide OPS through challenging times.
  • We have to make smart investments for our students and our community. At the top of the list is early childhood education which can improve language and literacy skills, reduce hyperactive behavior in kindergarten, strengthen social skills, and have long-lasting effects on the education outcomes of students of all backgrounds. Nick will emphasize support for early childhood education to leverage the benefits of helping kids get off to the right start.
  • Our schools need to provide students a foundation for success in life and a springboard to opportunity. It's a tall order. OPS students come to school with a wide variety of needs and goals. Nick will work to ensure access to a high-quality education for every student.
Looking back, I can see the advantages I had growing up that made it possible for me to get where I am today, including the hard work of my family and countless educators. It's this understanding that I've been fortunate and had help along the way has driven me to be an advocate for the kids of our community.

Over the years, I've been a volunteer, a board member, and a supporter for several nonprofits in Omaha that help kids learn, grow, heal, and thrive. Today, that drive to support kids has crystallized as my oldest daughter gets ready to enter kindergarten - with her two younger sisters not far behind. I want to make OPS the best it can be for my daughters and for every child in Omaha.
