Walden Poublon grew up on a dairy farm in rural Oregon and is a graduate of Portland State University. Following a serious health crisis during graduate school, he spent more than a decade at PSU as the Student Health Advisor, overseeing student health insurance and healthcare policy for approximately 28,000 students.
He has served as a legislative aide in the Oregon State Capitol, is active in Democratic Party leadership at the county and state levels, and currently works as a substitute teacher in his local school district. Walden Poublon lives in Sandy with his husband.- Rooted in Rural Oregon, Focused on Results: I was raised on a dairy farm and now live in Sandy. I understand the realities facing rural and mountain communities because I’ve lived them. My campaign is about practical solutions that strengthen local economies, protect our natural resources, and ensure every community in House District 52 has a voice at the table.
- Healthcare Is a Human Right, Not a Privilege: After surviving a serious health crisis in graduate school, I dedicated my career to improving access to healthcare. I spent more than a decade managing healthcare policy and budgets at Portland State University, and I will fight to protect and expand affordable, accessible healthcare for working families, seniors, and rural communities.
- Investing in Education and Working Families: As a substitute teacher and longtime education advocate, I see firsthand the challenges facing our classrooms and our educators. I’m running to invest in public education, support teachers, and ensure working families can afford housing, healthcare, and a future in the communities they call home.

- The importance of affordable housing. Safe and affordable housing is out of reach for too many Oregonians. I support Governor Kotek’s housing funding proposal which includes funds for low and medium income housing as well as money available to help keep people in their current housing.
- The necessity of healthcare for all. I would work to support legislation that removes the middle man who often profits unnecessarily from the healthcare system in this country. As a former healthcare advocate at Portland State University I have worked directly with OHP and other state health providers. I would advocate for the expansion of Medicare to better cover those who most need health care.
- The protection of the environment. One thing I hear frequently from my constituents is that they are concerned with the Urban Growth Boundary and making sure that we do not unnecessarily expand urban growth. I would work to maintain the character and community of our small towns. I believe in responsible development practices that balance environmental conservation with meeting the growing demand for affordable housing. I believe that promoting high-density housing within existing urban areas is a key strategy to achieve this balance. We can maximize land use efficiency, by encouraging infill development and transit-oriented design.
Upon discovering that the existing health plan fell short of meeting my needs and those of my fellow students, I took it upon myself to initiate change. Through advocacy and determination, I spearheaded efforts to overhaul the health plan, ultimately ensuring better coverage for all students at the university without any wait time. This experience taught me firsthand the importance of accessible and comprehensive healthcare and reinforced my belief in the power of individual action to effect meaningful change for the collective.
Ensuring access to equitable and affordable housing solutions is paramount. We must address the distinct needs of both urban and rural residents, recognizing the unique challenges each community faces. Affordable housing is not only about providing shelter; it's about creating opportunities for individuals to work, thrive, and build stable lives in the places they call home.
