Married to my wonderful wife of 25 years with 3 adult children. We have had a family consulting business for the last 8 years consulting and designing telecommunications for a diverse portfolio of clients across the U.S. I am currently a business professional that works as a Telecommunications design specialist for an international federal government contractor. I have lived in the 4th district of the county, in the Keith community, for nearly 30 years. This is the area where my family settled in 1838 after making the trip from Lincoln county North Carolina. My hobbies are serving my community, old cars, homesteading, and fishing.
  • Transparency

I have been standing up for the rights of Catoosa County citizens since August of 2019, and I have pushed for more transparency in our local government. Our county government's deficiency in being transparent led me to start C.S.I. (Citizens Sharing Information) Facebook page in 2022. I wanted to give the Catoosa County citizens the lens to see what I saw with our local county government and bring awareness to the citizens. It is my hope, when elected, to bring more transparency to the citizens through the Board of Commissioners.
  • Fiscal Responsibility Since 2020, I have reviewed our Catoosa County budget and spoke at every public hearing Budget Meeting. Despite a packed room at the three public hearing, the board disregarded the citizens plea to not raise taxes and voted unanimously to raise the property taxes on Catoosa County property owners. I voluntarily did a budget presentation at the August 2022 GOP meeting to educate my fellow citizens on how to comprehend the county presented 2022/2023 county budget cycle. I believe that a fiscally responsible government equates to lower taxes on the citizens.
  • Planning and Communication Throughout the time I have spent observing our government, I have noticed a tremendous lack of communication and planning between the county, the cities and school board. This leads to coordination issues within our county between the separate municipalities. I believe trust begins with communication and to decrease the fiscal spending, there must be proper planning between all government entities within our county. I believe that together we can provide the best service to our Catoosa residents at a palatable cost to the taxpayers.
Public safety, Infrastructure and education. These are the critical building blocks that make up our community.
My grandfather.
He was an honorable man and always did what was right. He stood up for those that couldn't but was never a trouble to anyone. His courage during his 3 campaigns in WW2 was admirable as he hauled tankers full of fuel to the front lines in aiding the tanks and vehicles with their resupply. His devotion to my grandmother and nearly 70 years of marriage was an example of his commitment. the love that he shared for his grandchildren by greeting us each one with the a scruffy kiss on the cheek, leaving the lingering smell of his cheap aftershave that he applied earlier in the day. He was my hero and I hope that I can be half the man he was to his family and friends.
Integrity is the first and foremost characteristic. Integrity drives the principles on which a person leads or governs and integrity is what our nations freedom hinges upon.
I like to think proactively and prepare. When there is a plan you can elude the chaos and streamline the process. Not to say that there will not be mistakes alone the way but the plan helps to avoid many more mistakes that could be made with a reactive approach. I am also very familiar with technology and the projected future of technology. I have been in Telecommunications industry for nearly 30 years and have seen the progression accelerating with time. Just in the past 5 years the rate of data transmission has increased, chip size has decreased and the cellular devices continually get smaller and add accessory's. I never thought 20 years ago that people would be connected to their cell phone via a watch and using Bluetooth earbuds to make a call but here we are. The next revolution in technology is the rise of quantum computing and AI which is worrisome for many in the technology world that grew up watching the Terminator movies. With an unregulated platform for AI, we can only hope that the systems will use compassion in their programming and work along side humans with the benefit of mankind and not the destruction.
To govern fair and responsible for the people while upholding and protecting the Constitution of the united States and of the state of Georgia. The citizens welfare of being safe and secure comes first so they can leave in peaceable communities. The second is to ensure that the citizen has proper infrastructure to be able to travel an to have utilities that they can use in order to prosper in their daily lives. The third is to be responsible in governing proactively and not reactively, forecast the needs ahead of time and not burden the taxpayer with immediate needs that could have been planned for.
I have always wanted my Legacy to be something that my children would be proud of. One that showed empathy for my neighbor and love for my community. The future is bleak without compassion and the only way that can transfer to the future is by generations.
1986, I was 13 and I was in class watching the space shuttle Challenger blast. This was a monumental day for teachers as the first ever teacher, Christa McAuliffe, was onboard and heading to space. We cheered at the launch and watched as the shuttle climbed higher and higher. Then tragedy struck, the space shuttle exploded, and we were all were shocked by the event that we saw. Joy turned to sadness and I went home from school that day with a grieving heart for those that lost their lives on that shuttle. The school bus was very quit on the ride home and I think we were all in shock by the images we saw. That evening the president, Ronald Regan, did his state of the union but instead he talked about the shuttle and brought the nation together to mourn the lives of those brave Astronauts.
Pitching hay in the fields. It was the hottest summer I can remember, maybe because of the labor I was doing. It was hard labor pitching, stacking on the truck and then unloading into the barn. I remember right after we were done stacking in the barn it started to rain. Shirtless and covered in fragments of hay I stepped out into the rain nd raised my arms up for a cooling shower. I was 13 that summer and I discovered that I did not want to do that the next summer and ask my dad to please find me another job for the next year that wasn't out in a hot field. He accommodated my wish, and it was running duct work in a hot attic for a heat and air guy.
"21 Indispensable qualities of a leader" - by John Maxwell.
This book came to me by necessity. I had just been promoted as a leader in my job back in 2004 and had hand picked my assistant to take care of the telecommunication needs of a fortune 250 company. I was under the stresses of juggling many projects and of being a freshman project manager. One day my assistant came to me and we had a disagreement on an issue. at the end of our discord he leaves me with saying, " I like the apprentice Nick better than the manager Nick". See, in my career before I was his manager, I was his apprentice and we always enjoyed working together. that weekend I had to take some refuse off to the county landfill and I had those thoughts of our conversation on my mind and I was praying for God to give me the skills to be a better leader. After I left, I decided to stop by a yard sale, which I had passed by the sign on my way to the landfill. Low and behold there was the book on the table for $0.25 and I thought how could this be. That book was the beginning of my road with development of my skills as a leader. It lead me to read more Maxwell books and gave me a hunger to seek more wisdom with other authors and videos like Zig Ziglar and Robert Briner.
Superman. He has always been my favorite super hero. His ability to fly, x-ray vision, super strength, compassion for the people of earth and his symbol on his chest represented "Hope" which was represented as coat of arms on his planet of Krypton. In my travels, I had the opportunity to visit the town Metropolis Illinois and see the worlds largest Superman statue in front of the old Massac county courthouse.
Having a child with a disability. It has been a struggle but has also blessed me beyond measure. I have learned so many things from my son that has made me a better person. Seeing Gods strength through my sons weakness has delivered me from being self centered and to rely on the dependency of the father to take care of the needs of our family. It has shown me to be passive and more forgiving because people don't understand and I cannot expect them to. I have overcome a lot of challenges over the last 25 years that has been journey that i did not choose but I am happy that i was chosen.
Why did the chicken cross the road?
To escape code enforcement.
I believe it is the duty of the government to be as transparent as possible which is why i started the C.S.I. (Citizens Sharing Information) Facebook and YouTube pages. However, it should never be the burden of the citizen to open the window for transparency. I believe if the government is totally transparent, there is then ease of the citizens to hold the government accountable and that delivers confidence to the citizens that their government is doing right by the citizens.
