I'm Nikki Fortunato Bas, a dedicated community organizer, Oakland City Council President, and candidate for Alameda County Supervisor. As the daughter of Filipino immigrants, I learned the importance of resilience, advocacy, and fighting for justice. I've spent my career championing workers' rights, housing justice, and community safety. I am committed to building a safer, healthier, and more equitable Alameda County, where every resident has the opportunity to thrive.
  • SAFETY FOR ALL -- As a mother and sexual assault survivor, nothing is more important to me than our safety.

My public safety vision is a holistic approach that focuses on two critical elements: maintaining trained, accountable law enforcement and financial investment to attack the root causes of crime and poverty.

As your County Supervisor, I’ll ensure stronger regional coordination to get guns off our streets, expand community policing models, and improve 911 response while increasing access to mental health and after-school programs, enhancing community and domestic violence prevention programs, and fighting human trafficking.

I will implement proven safety programs such as my groundbreaking Mobile Crisis Response Team.
  • HOUSING FOR ALL -- I’m honored to be solely endorsed by the Alameda County Central Labor and Alameda County Building & Construction Trades councils for my work to secure $350 Million to create 2,400 units of affordable housing. I established a $14 Million Fund to help low-income tenants purchase homes, and will bring these results-oriented approaches to the County. To address homelessness, I’ll expand job training and placement services; increase access to mental health counseling and substance abuse/addiction programs, and put my proven housing track record to work to create more transitional and permanent supportive housing for families, seniors and veterans.
  • HEALTHCARE FOR ALL -- County government provides safety net programs for our most vulnerable residents. The California Nurses Association endorses my candidacy and leadership to ensure that every family who needs access to quality healthcare receives it.
I’m deeply passionate about public safety, affordable housing, and economic justice. I believe that true safety means investing in both law enforcement and community services. Housing is a human right, and I’ve fought to protect renters and create affordable housing options. I am also committed to ensuring that our county prioritizes equitable access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities for all residents.
My commitment to equity, transparency, and collaboration sets me apart as a leader. I have a track record of engaging with communities to understand their needs and turn those insights into effective policies. As an organizer and elected official, I have demonstrated my ability to bring diverse groups together to achieve common goals, whether it's passing policies to protect tenants or securing funding for critical public services.
A County Supervisor must ensure that essential services such as healthcare, housing, and public safety are provided equitably across all communities. They are responsible for overseeing budgets, shaping county policies, and collaborating with local, state, and federal partners to address regional issues. It’s also essential to listen to residents and ensure that county decisions reflect the needs and priorities of all communities, particularly those who have been historically marginalized.
I am honored to have the endorsements of leaders like Senator Nancy Skinner, Assemblymember Liz Ortega, and community organizations such as the Sunrise Movement, APEN Action, and the Berkeley Tenants Union. I am also proud to have the support of labor unions like SEIU and Teamsters, who recognize my commitment to workers' rights and equitable economic development.

Ballotpedia biographical submission form

The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:

What is your political philosophy?

I’m running to bring bold, innovative and proactive leadership to make Oakland work for all of us. I will tackle the critical issues facing our city and District 2 and bring accountability to City Hall. I will listen and bring people together, and I will have the courage to stand up and fight for real solutions — just as I have as a community organizer.[4]
