|If you’re not familiar with where I live, we’ve faced some very serious challenges over the years and, at one point, things had gotten so bad that my family had to make a decision; move away from the neighborhood we love or stay and fight to make this a better place to raise our children. So that’s what I decided to do, anything and everything I could think of, including leading the fight to take away the liquor license of a very problematic store, organizing family friendly community events and clean ups, and fighting back against irresponsible LLC investors. I joined the board of Northwest Neighborhoods CDC and more recently, became involved in some larger endeavors, such as the fight to save Cudell Park, and the campaign to stop a gas station from being built at the corner of Madison and West Blvd.
None of it has been easy, but I feel so fortunate to have met wonderful friends and neighbors - and together we have been able to make some real progress.- If we want to strengthen our city as a whole, we need to help foster and maintain strong neighborhoods. Strong neighborhoods protect housing as a human right and provide stable, affordable living for all residents. I will advocate for policies that prevent forced displacement, including stronger tenant protections and anti-eviction measures. I will also support tax relief for seniors and others on a fixed income, and I will promote community benefits agreements that require developers to contribute to affordable housing or greenspace investments when receiving public subsidies. Strong neighborhoods also require creating a healthier and more sustainable urban environment, which includes not just planting but also maintaining existing trees.
- Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home, sitting on their front porch, or walking down the street. Safety comes from strong communities, not just enforcement. Community Policing should be both the goal of the Cleveland Police Department as well as a citywide priority to help build trust within the community. Working with block clubs and other neighborhood groups in smaller settings will help achieve this goal so I will partner with CDCs and other organizations to strengthen and expand block clubs and other grassroots resident groups Ward-wide. I will also advocate for safe pedestrian pathways, more bike lanes, and increase funding for the City’s Residential Traffic Calming program, including building more speed tables in Ward 11.
- Promoting government transparency, accountability, and community involvement are key focus areas of my campaign. Residents should also expect and deserve high-performing City services, and I will promote open government practices, including accessible public records and clear communication from City officials. I will advocate for an independent redistricting process to ensure fair representation and prevent political manipulation of Ward maps, and I want to help create a culture where bold leadership and accountability thrive by embracing diverse opinions, fostering healthy conversations, and bringing policy debates to the City Council floor.
