A Niles Charter Township Sheriff Levy Renewal proposal was on the November 6, 2012 election ballot in Berrien County, which is in Michigan approved.
This proposal authorized the Charter Township of Niles to renew a 1 mill ($1 per $1,000) property tax for four years in order to fund the contracting with Barrien county Sheriff department. The estimated first year revenue from this tax $353,165.[1]

| “ | Shall the expired previous voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution in Niles Charter Township, of one (1) mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable value), be renewed at one (1) mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for four (4) years, 2012 through 2015 inclusive, for contracting with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department for police protection, raising an estimated $353,165.00 in the first year.[1][2] | ” |
