Ground is the president of Pet ResQ 911, an animal rescue and adoption agency which she founded in 2010. Prior to that, she was a project manager at Global Ventures Holding Company from 2003 to 2006.[1]

The city of Nashville, Tennessee, held nonpartisan elections for mayor and metro council on August 6, 2015. A runoff election took place on September 10, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was May 21, 2015. All 41 metro council seats—including the office of vice mayor—were up for election. In District 8, the candidates were Ramona L. Gholston, Nina Ground, Robert Sawyers, Sr., Chris Swann, Nancy VanReece and Danny Williams. VanReece and Swann advanced to the runoff election.[3] VanReece defeated Swann in the runoff election.[4] Incumbent Karen Bennett was term-limited. She ran for election to an at-large seat.[5]
