CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia: Judge Edward L. Hogshire of Virginia's 16th Circuit has barred cameras from the sentencing of ex-University of Virginia lacrosse player and accused killer George Huguely.[1] Huguely, convicted of second-degree murder and grand larceny in February 2012, is scheduled to be sentenced on August 30.[2] Several media outlets requested permission to bring video cameras and still cameras into the courtroom. Hogshire denied the requests, saying, "I’ve never understood how the presence of cameras enhance judicial proceedings." Both the defense and prosecution agreed that cameras should not be allowed for the sentencing hearing.[2]
