Campaign themes
2017
Corzo highlighted the following issues on her campaign website:
“ | Equity in Education
Our diverse community and student population are assets. However, our schools are struggling to close the achievement gap. Studies show that prioritizing equity in education improves the quality of education for all students. Every student deserves the educational opportunities that will help them thrive. I am dedicated to serving all of the students in our district. Teacher-District Relations Teachers are the backbone of our schools; they are hard-working and dedicated. Our students and communities suffer when we can't attract or retain quality educators. I am committed to improving partnerships and communication between the board, district, and teachers to ensure stability and success at all of our schools. District Funding SMFCSD's last parcel tax did not pass. Our district is facing difficult financial decisions and cuts that will negatively impact our students and teachers. I will provide strong leadership and promote community-based collaboration to support a fiscally responsible parcel tax campaign that protects and supplements our school funding. Parent Engagement SMFCSD aims to improve communication and increase participation with our diverse parent and student population. Active parent engagement is a crucial indicator of educational success. My goal is to cultivate an active and informed parent community to support the success of our district schools, students and teachers. I will work hard to ensure that the voices of every student and San Mateo and Foster City family are heard and valued.[8] |
