Two Nooksack Valley School District Levy Replacement measures were on the February 14, 2012 ballot in the Nooksack Valley school district area which is in Whatcom County.

Both measures were approved

The first measure sought to replace the current school levy which is set to expire with one set at a rate of $4.36 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for educational program and operational costs in the district.

The second measure sought to replace the current school technology levy which is set to expire with one set at a rate of $.60 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for technology upgrades and facility improvement costs in the district.[1]

The question on the ballot:

Proposition 1:The Board of Directors adopted Resolution No. 5 concerning educational funding. This proposition authorizes the District to levy the following excess taxes, to replace an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the District, to maintain current educational program funding levels and support the District’s educational programs, student services and operations: Collection Years: 2013-2016; Approximate Levy Rate/$1,000 Assessed Value: $4.36, $4.48, $4.48, $4.48; Levy Amount: $3,600,000, $3,700,000, $3,700,000, $3,700,000. Should this proposition be approved?

Proposition 2: The Board of Directors of Nooksack Valley School District No. 506 passed Resolution No. 6 concerning this proposition for technology and capital projects levies. The proposition would authorize modernization and repair projects to District facilities, the modernization of technology and computer systems for instruction and operations, and other capital project expenditures; and authorizes the following taxes in excess of regular property tax levies, upon all taxable property within the District: Collection Years: 2013-2016; Approximate Levy Rate/$1,000 Assessed Value: $.12, $.60, $.60, $.60; Levy Amount: $100,000, $500,000, $500,000, $500,000. Should this proposition be approved?[3]
