Marek received a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University and a J.D. from Washburn University School of Law.[1]

Prior to his judicial appointment, Marek worked in private practice and was the Wabaunsee County attorney. He has also previously served as a municipal court judge and a city attorney.[1]
