One of the five seats on the Norman Public Schools school board was scheduled for general election on February 9, 2016. Office 1 incumbent Dirk O'Hara was up for re-election, but he was the sole candidate to file for the race.[1]

Due to the lack of opposition, the election was canceled and O'Hara was automatically re-elected to a new five-year term. [2]

This marked the third consecutive canceled election for the district. The 2014 and 2015 races were also canceled due to lack of opposition.

Voter and candidate information

The Norman Board of Education consists of five members elected by district to five-year terms. The Office 1 seat was scheduled for election in 2016. There was no primary election, and the general election was scheduled to be held on February 9, 2016. A runoff election could have been held on April 5, 2016, if no candidate won a majority of votes cast in the general election. Since only one candidate filed for the election, it was canceled and O'Hara was automatically re-elected.[2]

Candidates had to file affidavits of candidacy between December 7, 2015, and December 9, 2015. The voter registration deadline for the general election was January 16, 2016.
