North Dakota Direct Democracy Referendum (1942)

The North Dakota Direct Democracy Referendum, also known as Legislative Power - Initiative and Referendum, was on the June 30, 1942 ballot in North Dakota as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was defeated.[1] The measure would have changed the signature requirements to the following:[2][3]
- 20,000 signatures for initiated state statutes and initiated constitutional amendments
- 30,000 signatures for veto referendums
- 40,000 signatures or gubernatorial order to call a special election when a veto referendum is petitioned for on a piece of emergency legislation
