The North Dakota Ellendale Branch Repeal Referendum, also known as Amendment 2, was on the September 5, 1972 ballot in North Dakota as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved.[1] The measure ended the constitutional requirement that an educational or charitable institution be located in the city of Ellendale and the removed the constitutional status of the Ellendale Branch of the University of North Dakota. This removal allowed for the state board of higher education to sell and convey certain property owned by the state for the Ellendale Branch to the city of Ellendale or to a nonprofit industrial development corporation.[2]
