The North Dakota Oil Taxes for Wildlife Projects Amendment did not make the 2012 ballot in North Dakota as an initiated constitutional amendment.
The proposed measure would have redirected 5% of oil production and extraction tax revenues to a wildlife projects fund. The wildlife fund would have been managed by a nine-member appointed board. State estimates indicated that the fund could collect between $51 million and $84 million annually.[1]
Support
Supporters included Nature Conservancy, Ducks Unlimited and the North Dakota Natural Resources Trust.[1]

Supporters were required to collect and submit a minimum of 26,904 valid signatures by August 8, 2012 in order to qualify the proposed measure for the 2012 statewide ballot.
The proposed measure was approved for petition circulation by Secretary of State Al Jaeger.[2]
According to reports, supporters delivered 36,000 signatures on August 6, 2012, to the Secretary of State, who had until September 10 to verify the petitions.[3]
On September 4, 2012, Secretary Jaeger announced that the measure would not be on the ballot due to the invalidation of hundreds of signatures. It was determined during the verification process that several signature gatherers for the measure committed petition fraud by falsifying signatures.[4]
