BISMARCK, North Dakota: Recently, Sen. Cooper Garnos announced that he plans to retire before his two-year term ends. Rep. Kent Juhnke was recently appointed by Gov. Dennis Daugaard to replace Garnos in early 2012.[1]

A successor for Juhnke's position has yet to be selected.

Garnos has been a Republican member of the South Dakota State Senate since 2007, representing the 21st District. He most recently ran for re-election to the 21st District seat in 2010. He defeated Brandon Sazue (D) in the general election on November 2, 2010.

District 21 is currently represented by Sen. Garnos, Rep. Juhnke and Rep. James Schaefer.
