North Dakota judge facing possible suspension
January 30, 2012
North Dakota: In January 2012, it was recommended that Judge Cynthia Feland receive a 60 day suspension and $11,000 fine for conduct when she was a assistant state's attorney. At issue is a document that she did not reveal during the prosecution of the director of the North Dakota's Workforce Safety and Insurance agency, who was accused of misspending funds. The director, Sandy Blunt, was later convicted of a felony which was upheld by the North Dakota Supreme Court. Blunt believes that Feland's non-disclosure of the memo contributed to the conviction.[1]
The investigation into Feland's actions was conducted by the disciplinary board of the Supreme Court. The court will hear the case in mid-February and decide whether Feland should suspended. For her part, Judge Feland denies any wrongdoing and is challenging the investigation's findings.[1]
