North Fund is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit that has contributed to several ballot measure campaigns, including New Approach Montana in support of Montana I-190 (2020) and Missourians for Healthcare in support of Medicaid expansion in Missouri. As of August 2025, the North Fund's website said it "supports social impact initiatives and campaigns to create a more just, fair, and equitable society."[1]

    North Fund's filings with the Internal Revenue Service showed it dispersed over $25 million in grants during the 2023 tax year.[3] That includes $5,425,000 in giving to Sixteen Thirty Fund, $2 million in giving to Advance American Democracy, whose website said its mission is to "protect the sanctity of democracy," and $1,750,000 in giving to Run for Something Action Fund, whose website says its goal is to "recruit and support young, diverse progressives to run for down-ballot races."[4][5]

    The Kansas No State Constitutional Right to Abortion and Legislative Power to Regulate Abortion Amendment was designed to state that nothing in the state constitution creates a right to abortion or requires government funding for abortion, and to state that the legislature has the authority to pass laws regarding abortion. North Fund contributed $535,000 to the opposition campaign of the measure.[7]

    Colorado Proposition 118 was designed to establish a paid family and medical leave program in Colorado to provide 12 weeks (up to 16 weeks in certain cases) of paid leave (with a maximum benefit of $1,100 per week) funded through a payroll tax to be paid for by employers and employees in a 50/50 split. The North Fund contributed at least $2.1 million in support of the measure.[8]

    Colorado Proposition 115 was designed to prohibit abortions in Colorado after a fetus reaches 22-weeks gestational age as calculated from the first day of the woman's last menstrual period. The North Fund contributed at least $1 million to the opposition campaign.[10]

    Together, Montana I-190 and CI-118 legalized, taxed, and regulated recreational marijuana. The North Fund contributed at least $4.8 million to New Approach Montana, the campaign sponsoring the initiatives.[11]

    Missouri Amendment 3 eliminated the nonpartisan state demographer and returned to the use a bipartisan commission appointed by the governor for legislative redistricting; altered the criteria used to draw district maps; changed the threshold of lobbyists' gifts from $5 to $0; and lowered the campaign contribution limit for state senate campaigns from $2,500 to $2,400. As of October 2020, the North Fund contributed $1.2 million to the opposition campaign.[13]

    Missouri Amendment 2 expanded Medicaid eligibility in Missouri to adults that are between the ages of 19 and 65 whose income is 138% of the federal poverty level or below. The North Fund contributed $2.6 million to the support campaign.[14]

    Arkansas Issue 4, Redistricting Commission Amendment (2020)

    Arkansas Issue 4 would have created the Citizens' Redistricting Commission for state legislative and congressional redistricting. It was blocked from the ballot by the Arkansas Supreme Court. The North Fund contributed $85,000 to the campaign in support of the measure.[15]
