Five seats on the North Penn School District Board of Directors were up for general election on November 3, 2015. A primary election was held on May 19, 2015.

Incumbents Carolyn Murphy, John Schilling and Suzan Leonard won re-election. Edward Diasio and Theresa Prykowski also joined the board. They defeated incumbent Cory Brown and challengers Beverly Dodds, Benjamin Litman, Patrick McGee Jr. and Tina Stoll.

All candidates filed to run in both the Republican primary and the Democratic primary.[1][2]

Leonard, Murphy, Dodds, Litman and Stoll won the Democratic primary. Brown, Schilling, Diasio, McGee and Prykowski were victorious in the Republican primary. No independent candidates filed to run in the general election.[3]

The North Penn School District is located in southeastern Pennsylvania in Montgomery County. The county seat is Norristown. According to the United States Census Bureau, Montgomery County had a population of 812,376 in 2013.[4] In the 2012-2013 school year, the North Penn School District was the seventh-largest school district in Pennsylvania and served 12,650 students.[5]

Demographics

The county outperformed the rest of Pennsylvania in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. According to the United States Census Bureau, the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor's degree or higher in Montgomery County was 45.5 percent, and the state overall percentage was 27.5 percent. The median household income in the county was $79,183 compared to Pennsylvania's statewide median of $52,548. The poverty rate in the county was 6.1 percent, and the state's poverty rate was 13.3 percent.[4]

Voter and candidate information

The North Penn Board of Directors consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. The members of the board are elected at-large by voters in the district. The primary election for the North Penn Board of Directors was held on May 19, 2015, and the general election was held on November 3, 2015. Five seats were up for election on November 3, 2015.[3]

School board candidates had to file for this election with Montgomery County by March 10, 2015. Those wishing to run as an independent candidate had until August 3, 2015, to file. To vote in the primary election, residents had to register by April 20, 2015, and to vote in the general election, residents had to register by October 5, 2015.[7]
