Three seats on the Northwest Local School Board were up for election on November 5, 2013. Incumbent Pamela L. Detzel and candidates Michael Harlow and Christopher J. Heather won election over incumbents David Denny and Elaine Gauck, as well as challengers Bruce Gehring and Dexter Carpenter, for the three at-large seats.

Northwest Local School District is located in Hamilton County, Ohio. The county seat of Hamilton County is Cincinnati, Ohio. The county's population was 802,374 according to the 2010 U.S. Census.[1]
Demographics
Hamilton County outperforms the rest of Ohio in terms of higher education attainment and median income, but underperforms in terms of poverty rate. The 2010 U.S. Census found that 33.2% of Hamilton County residents over 25 years old held undergraduate degrees compared to a 24.7% rate for the state of Ohio. Fairfield had a median income of $49,104 in 2010 compared to $48,246 for Ohio. The poverty rate for Fairfield was 17.1% in 2010 compared to an 15.4% rate for the rest of the state.[1]

Method of board member selection
The Northwest Local School Board is composed of five members that are elected at-large. There was no primary election on September 10, 2013 and the general election was held on November 5, 2013. Three seats on the board were up for election in 2013.
Candidates for the Northwest Local School Board must be 18 years old, a resident of the district and not hold city office concurrent to board service.[3] They are paid $125 per meeting, with 24 scheduled per year.[4]
