O. Peter Sherwood was a justice for the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 1st Judicial District of New York. He was appointed to this position as an acting justice in 2008. He also served as a judge of the New York Court of Claims.[1][2]

Education

Sherwood received his B.A. degree from the Brooklyn College, City University of New York in 1968 and his J.D. degree from the New York University School of Law in 1971.[1]

Career

Sherwood began his career in 1971 as a law secretary to New York City Civil Court Judge Fritz Alexander. He then worked from 1974 to 1984 as assistant counsel to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. Also, from 1980 to 1987, he taught as an adjunct assistant professor at the New York University School of Law. From 1984 to 1986, he worked for the New York State Department of Law as a deputy solicitor general. He worked as the solicitor general until 1991. From 1991 through 1993, he was corporation counsel for the City of New York. In 1994, he served briefly as a visiting professor at the CUNY Law School. Also that year, he joined the firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, where he was a partner until his judicial appointment in 2008. He was appointed judge of the New York Court of Claims and became an acting supreme court justice in 2008.[1]
