Oakley D. Nelson was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 1 of the Utah House of Representatives.[1]

Biography

Nelson has been the precinct vice-chairman for the Utah Republican Party since 2007. He has been a council-member for the town of Elwood since January, 2014.[2]

Nelson's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]

  • Excerpt: "If elected, I will work on issues that are important to our community. I am committed to ensuring that education remains a legislative priority. I will be an advocate for the continued growth of educational opportunities for students in our community and across the state. I will work to promote economic growth and to create an environment that is encouraging and supportive of small businesses. I will also maintain protection of the agricultural industry, and support opportunities for leaders and members of the agricultural community to prosper and succeed."

Elections for the Utah House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 20, 2014. Dorene Schulze-Stever was unopposed in the Democratic convention. In the Republican convention, Oakley Nelson was eliminated and Scott Sandall advanced as a general election candidate. Sandall defeated Schulze-Stever and Lee Phipps (Constitution) in the general election.[1]
