Washington, D.C.: While the Senate delays the confirmation of federal judges, the President nominated four more individuals to serve the federal court system.

On July 21, 2010, Obama nominated Charles Day to the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Day has served as a Magistrate for that district for over 13 years. Also on the 21st, Obama selected Kathleen M. Williams for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Williams has served as Federal Public Defender in that district since 1995.[1]

One week later, Obama nominated Marina Marmolejo as a judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Marmolejo has been an attorney in private practice for two years. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the district.[2] To the Superior Court in Washington D.C., Obama nominated Maribeth Raffinan, a supervising attorney in the Trial Division of the Public Defender Service.[3]

All four appointees will follow the federal court appointment process, beginning with a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee, before being confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
