The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) is a department within the Executive Office of the President that coordinates drug control policy and efforts to reduce substance abuse. It was established with the passage of the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988.[1][2]

In March 2025, President Donald Trump (R) nominated Sara Carter as director of the ONDCP.[3]

Activities

The White House outlined the following activities and coordination efforts for the ONDCP:

  • ONDCP is responsible for the development and implementation of the National Drug Control Strategy and Budget.
  • ONDCP coordinates across 19 federal agencies and oversees a $44 billion budget as part of a whole-of-government approach to addressing addiction and the overdose epidemic.
  • ONDCP also provides hundreds of millions of dollars to help communities stay safe and healthy through the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program and the Drug-Free Communities Program.[4]
