State legislative elections took place on November 2 in 88 of the country's 99 legislative chambers.
- 6,125 of the country's 7,384 state legislative seats were up for election in 2010.
46 states held elections this year (Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, and Virginia did not hold elections at the state legislative level this year).
Some states place sample ballots online broken down by district. Others publish full candidate lists in a single document.
Heading into the November 2 elections, the Democratic Party held a commanding lead in state houses in the 88 legislative chambers that hold elections in 2010. 52 of the 88 chambers, or nearly 60% of them, currently have a Democratic majority, while 33 of them have a Republican majority. (Two chambers have an exactly equal number of Democrats and Republicans and one is officially nonpartisan.)
