Ohio Legislative Districts, Amendment 5 (October 1857)

The Ohio Legislative Districts Amendment, also known as Amendment 5, was on the October 13, 1857 ballot in Ohio as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was defeated. The measure would have provided for one representative per district by dividing any county with more than one representative into as many districts as existing representatives.[1]

Note: Although this measure gathered more "yes" votes, a majority of the total 332,126 votes in the entire election (166,604 votes) were needed for the measure to be approved.
