Oldest Senior Federal Judge, Robert Kelleher passes away at 99

Los Angeles, California: On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 Robert Kelleher the oldest serving federal judge passed away in Los Angeles. The 99 year old Kelleher was originally appointed to the United States District Court for the Central District of California by Richard M. Nixon and served on the court from December 21, 1970 until he assumed senior status on March 5, 1983. A native of New York State, Kelleher graduated from Williams College with his bachelor's degree in 1935 and later with his juris doctorate at Harvard Law School in 1938. Kelleher served two years in the US Navy as a reservist from 1943 to 1945.[1] Kelleher is also a former tennis champion, Captaining the 1963 U.S. Davis Cup team and winning the 1947 mixed doubles championship with his wife, Gracyn Wheeler Kelleher. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2000.[2]
