An effort to recall Oliver G. Gilbert III from his position as Mayor of Miami Gardens, Florida was launched in July 2013. However, the effort appeared to have been abandoned after recall leaders never followed through on a promise to file a petition to officially begin the recall process.[1][2]
Background
In late July a local Miami Gardens TV station reported on an effort to recall Gilbert. The effort's leaders, resident Fanny Arnold and political consultant Vanessa Britto, indicated that a petition to recall Gilbert would be filed on July 22, 2013. The women claimed Gilbert had violated state election laws and was handling the city's budget poorly. The recall petition, however, never materialized.[1][2]
Gilbert was elected to his position as Mayor in mid-2012, and sworn in on August 30 of that year. He had previously served on the city council.[1]
