Elections

Voter and candidate information

The Omaha Board of Education consists of nine members elected by district to four-year terms. A primary election was held on May 10, 2016 for Subdistricts 1 and 7 due to the fact that the number of candidates who filed to run in the election was more than double the number of seats up for election. The top vote-getter in each district with a primary advanced to the general election which was held on November 8, 2016. The board members elect a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer during an organizational meeting in January.[2]

To be elected to the board, candidates must reside in the boundaries of the school district and be a registered voter.[2][3]

Candidates had until March 1, 2016, to file their nomination papers. Incumbents had to file by February 16, 2016.[4]
