Torres highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:
“ | SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, & MATH (STEM) According to a 2013 report by the National Math and Science Initiative, 42 percent of fourth grade students and 35 percent of eighth grade students performed at or above the proficient level in mathematics. Our current school board is tackling the crisis by investing in STEM education for our students. Many of our FMSD schools have a specific focus on STEM. This is why our district institutions are rapidly improving every year. I will ensure that FMSD continues to focus and invest in STEM curriculum for students and professional development for teachers. Students must be exposed to technology at a young age in order to develop a strong foundation to be ready for today and tomorrow’s technology and globalized economy. CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP ENDING ILLITERACY IN OUR SCHOOLS |
