Orange County judge publicly admonished
July 19, 2011
California: Last week the California Commission on Judicial Performance issued a public admonishment for Judge Nancy A. Pollard. Pollard serves on the Orange County Superior Court. She was found to have violated a number of canons of the Code of Judicial Ethics during two different cases.
In a 2009 case, Pollard was found to have engaged in speech perceived to be prejudiced or biased after remarking on ethnic stereotypes in the courtroom. In a later case, Pollard declared a mistrial after it exceeded an allotted time limit imposed by the judge. The California Fourth District Court of Appeal responded to the appeal of that case by stating, "The abuse of discretion in granting this mistrial is manifest."[1]
