The Oregon Trapping Ban Initiative did not make the November 2014 statewide ballot as an initiated state statute. The measure would have banned trapping or poisoning animals, trading in fur/body parts of trapped animal and body-gripping traps. The measure was primarily supported by Trap Free Oregon.[1]

Support
This measure was primarily supported by Trap Free Oregon. Mary Launer and Miles Hutchins were the chief petitioners for this proposed initiative.[1]
Path to the ballot

Petitioners submitted their proposed initiative on January 11, 2013. It was approved for circulation on June 21, 2013. Trap Free Oregon started collecting signatures on June 27, 2013. In order to qualify for the ballot, supporters were required to collect a minimum of 87,213 valid signatures by July 3, 2014. However, Trap Free Oregon announced via their website that they would be postponing their campaign to place this measure on the 2014 ballot, and would instead work to place a similar measure on the 2016 ballot. The group stated that they were suspending the campaign due to a lack of public knowledge and understanding of the subject, as well as public polling showing that the clause in the measure that would affect traps on private land had little support.[3]
