The Oregon Universal Background Checks Initiative (Petition #16) did not make the 2016 ballot in the state of Oregon as an initiated state statute. If approved by voters, the measure would have required background checks on all sales and transfers of firearms through firearms dealers, gun shows, online, and unlicensed private individuals.[1]

Path to the ballot
Supporters needed collect a minimum of 1,000 signatures to file the petition. In order to land the measure on the ballot, supporters were then required to collect at least 88,184 valid signatures.[1] No signatures were submitted by the July 8, 2016, deadline.[2]
