Fateama Fulmore is the superintendent of the Orleans Parish School Board. Fulmore was selected as superintendent on April 2, 2025. Fulmore's previous career experience includes serving a deputy superintendent, teacher, assistant principal, and principal.[1][2]

Past superintendents

  • Avis Williams was the superintendent of the Orleans Parish School board from 2022 to 2024. Williams' previous career experience includes serving in the U.S. Army and working as a personal trainer, business owner, teacher, and district administrator. She also served as the superintendent of Selma City Schools in Alabama for five years.[3]
  • Henderson Lewis, Jr. was the superintendent of the Orleans Parish School Board from 2015 to 2022. Lewis' previous career experience includes working as the superintendent of the East Feliciana Parish School Board and as a teacher with the St. Bernard Parish School Board.[4]

Members of the Orleans Parish School Board are elected to four-year terms. All seats are up for election every four years in November.

Seven seats on the board were up for general election in 2024. A primary was on November 5, 2024. A general election, if needed, was scheduled for December 7, 2024.

Louisiana elections use the Louisiana majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50% of the vote. If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.
