Three of the nine seats on the Paterson Public Schools Board of Education were up for general election on November 3, 2015. The seats of at-large incumbents Errol Kerr, Manuel Martinez Jr. and Corey Teague's seats were up for election. Kerr and Teague filed to seek re-election, while Martinez did not. Challengers Nakima Redmon, Oshin Castillo and Kevin Henry defeated Kerr, Teague and Jesus Castro. Write-in candidates were allowed in this election.[1]

Castillo discussed the district's projected budget shortfalls in an interview with the Paterson Press:

There are two simple solutions that can resolve our issues. First we would need to get the funding that we need from that state because without the correct funding we will practically be condemned to the same vicious cycle.

Second, we need to stop spending on things that we do not need like demographers that stated that we would have fewer students than what we actually have. We need to determine what programs are working for our students and enhance those, and get rid of the ones that are not working. [3]
