Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Pádraig-Eóin went the trade school route graduating from Utah Valley University Wildland and Structure Firefighter Recruit Academy in 2009. He graduated from Paramedic School in 2011 through Mt. Nebo Training / University of Utah 2011. Professional experience includes working as an Interagency Hotshot with the Bureau of Land Management and as an EMT. In addition to his healthcare background, he has worked as a Pharmacy Technician and served as a local volunteer EMT.

He is a military spouse and comes from a multigenerational military family. He is running for city council because He recognizes this is a critical moment to fix some of Norfolk’s Greatest problems. The Police Shortage, lack of transparency, and community representation has been getting worse for a decade. Then add the local housing crisis. Ward One’s City Council Set has been uncontested since 2010. Democracy does not work unless the People have a choice.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• Transformative and Community Representative Police Reform
• Increased Transparency
• Sustainable Development without Displacement

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about Police Reform, Affordable Housing and Homelessness, and access to Clean Water.

What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the state government and legal system?

That the City Council gets to Vote on the City Budget. The Budget includes Police Funding. So again, change starts at the local level.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Daniel O'Connell. Hopefully, my answer will inspire your curiosity to Google him, and thus you will know why I admire him.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Advocacy, resilience, honesty, empathy

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

An officeholder who isn't beholden to money, kickbacks, or can't be bought because of his/her integrity.

Determination. A fight sometimes is still worth fighting even if you know you are going to lose.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Review and approve the annual budget; Establish long- and short-term Forward Thinking Objectives

What legacy would you like to leave?

That if I could be the first one to challenge the City Council Seat in Ward 1 in over a decade on little to no money, then you can too. There is no reason you can't do it. Sometimes fighting isn't always about winning.

Also, as someone who is Autistic, I want people to know no matter where we are on the spectrum, we should be valued.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

I remember Hurricane Andrew. I was 4.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was at Hooters when I was 15 years old. I was living with my sister, and my brother-in-law was in Iraq. Money was tight, so one Sunday, I rode my bike all over town looking for a job in my "Sunday Best." Unfourtantly, it started raining when I was miles away from home, and I had no job offers. I refused to quit. So, all wet and covered in mud from the bike tires, I walked into Hooters and asked if they were hiring dishwashers or Busboys. I got hired on the spot. The manager said if I was willing to look for a job in the rain, he was ready to take a chance. I had that job for almost two years. I saw the Boston Red Sox win the World Series that year. It was amazing!

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Being Neurodivergent

Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?

I get a single vote in appointing the City Attorney. So when we talk about Justice reform, change starts at the local level.
Also, Norfolk doesn't have a Police Chief. So working with the new Chief will be another opportunity for local change.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?

No. Also, it's not a requirement for the City either. If elected, the City will teach you how to do the job, just like any other employer. I have a lot of experience that makes me well-rounded rather than strictly in one area of expertise.

What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?

Empathy. I believe people need to have a personal understanding of what their constituents are going through. "The people closest to the pain should be the closest to the power, driving & informing the policymaking."-Ayanna Pressley
