I am an educator. I taught elementary and junior high students in the Waverly-Shell Rock School District for 33 years. Teaching is what I do. Listening and working with people to find workable solutions to problems is what I do. I believe in building relationships first in order to bring people together. We need individuals in the State Senate who will listen to and represent the people. As I have talked to voters throughout the district, I have heard frustration with our legislators not working together for the common good of the people. My career, working with students, staff, administration, and parents, is on record as to how I am able to listen and work with people.

As a lifelong Iowan, my commitment to preserving our quality of life is unwavering. Quality of life means that Iowans should not have to struggle daily to put food on the table, keep a roof over their head, or have clothes on their bodies.

To meet daily needs, citizens need access to good paying jobs. Rural economic development opportunities are possible. Iowa can offer employment in agriculture, health care, business, the trades, and education.

  • We must address the accessibility of our health care and mental health care systems to meet the needs of our communities.
  • Iowa has been one of the top states in education for years until recently. We must invest in our schools to keep and attract families to Iowa.
  • Iowa needs to prioritize building a stronger infrastructure by maintaining roads, bridges, and access to fast reliable broadband throughout our entire state.
Our schools and students need our state leaders to truly care about how we provide services and funding for education. When we under invest in our education, we keep our students from opportunities and having access to classes as well as supplies. Our teachers use their own resources to be able to give the students what they need because teachers and staff care deeply about their students and want each student to reach their potential. Access to mental health services is another area of deep concern. When we have children and adults waiting in ERs or at county jails until beds and services are found, that is unacceptable. We must also make access to fast, reliable broadband a priority. We know it is no longer a luxury, but it is a necessity. Small businesses, farmers, students, and others need to be able to rely on broadband access for daily living.
