My name is Pam Mckelvy Hamner. I’ve lived in Southaven in DeSoto county for 25 years. I’m married to Dr. Dabney Hamner at Methodist Healthcare. We have an 18 year old son. I’ve worked in broadcasting and journalism for thirty years. I love the outdoors Gardening, fishing and grilling.
  • Expand Medicaid - Mississippians are at a crossroads. We either believe we are ALL God’s children or we’re not. I’m running because elected officials represent all of us, even the ones who don’t vote for them. By expanding Medicaid, we save 300,000 Mississippians from living without healthcare, we create jobs, stop hospital closings and boost the economy.
  • Drop the grocery tax - Food shouldn’t be taxed. Period. Mississippi is a working class state and it makes better economics for the majority to drop the grocery tax to save working families money.
  • Fully fund Public Education - There’s enough money in this state to fully fund public education in all 82 counties. We just have to vote for lawmakers who believe in inclusion and not exclusion. Education is critical to Mississippi’s future. We must better prepare our students whether it’s for college, skilled labor government services. We are not where we should be and it’s time to stop the hemorrhaging of our best leaving the state.

I was in twelfth grade at Washington high school in Kansas City, Kansas. A classmate was walking down the hall crying, I asked her what was wrong and she said the Space Shuttle just blew up. I was an aide and immediately went to watch with my teacher who didn’t have class. We both cried. About an hour later, the principal came on the intercom and dismissed school early. A teacher was on the flight. Christine MacCuliffe.
If elected, I’m pretty sure it would be challenging to get a bill on the floor alone. This is what I know for sure: senate democrats already have a bill to expand Medicaid and I’m already to do whatever is necessary to get it passed.
