2009 recall
In a narrow recall election taking place on November 12, 2009, voters recalled Murray from the city council 542–540. Attorney Jamie Hollin, who described Murray as "unresponsive to constituents" and led the opposition group, claimed that Murray did not actually spend most of her time in Nashville but instead lived in Detroit, Michigan, working at a methadone clinic.[5][6] Hollin was the first person ever to oust a council member by recall vote.
“ | [T]his made history and will go down in the record books for the city of Nashville. Is it ever going to happen again? I’d never say never, but it’s highly unlikely.[7] | ” |
—Jamie Hollin, [5] |
When Murray was asked if she would request a recount or pursue legal action, she commented, "All I know is this whole thing has been a conspiracy since day one."[5]
