In an article in the Albuquerque Journal, Richardson said she was running for the following reasons:[1]

  • Excerpt: "My sole purpose and intention to equally represent the people of District 54 springs from a deep appreciation and firsthand knowledge of a hardworking, self-sustaining people. The obligation and necessary duty this knowledge brings to bear is why I am running. My ultimate hope and goal, when elected, is to effect change and bring relief to our current water and property rights concerns, to take back our state rights to run New Mexico to the pleasure and will of its citizens and to make New Mexico as friendly as possible to businesses of all kinds."

Elections for the New Mexico House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014, and a general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 4, 2014. James Townsend defeated Pam Richardson in the Republican primary. Townsend was unchallenged in the general election.[2][3]
