What was at stake?
There were three at-large seats on the school board up for election on November 4, 2014. Incumbents Connie S. Bowne and Patricia Conway-Boyd sought re-election to the board, while fellow incumbent Mike Jones did not file for re-election. Issues in the district
Tax levy increase
A budget proposed by the Papillion-La Vista School Board on August 25, 2014, would have raised the tax levy 4.67 cents per $100 of assessed property value. School officials argued the hike was necessary due to increasing enrollment, construction projects and loss of tax revenue to the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy County.[10] Under the common property tax levy system created in 2007, Papillion-La Vista School was estimated to lose nearly $1.5 million to the Learning Community for 2014-15.[11]
