Two seats on the Park Hill Board of Education in Missouri were scheduled for general election on April 3, 2018. Kimberlee Ried, who filled the vacancy left after the resignation of Karen Holland in 2017, filed for election. Kyla Yamada also filed for election. Because two candidates filed to run, no election was held. The terms for Ried and Yamada began at the time of the school board's first meeting on April 12, 2018.[1]

Members of the Park Hill school board are elected at large to three-year, staggered terms. Three seats were up for election in 2017 and two seats were up for election in 2018.

Missouri school board candidates had to be at least 24 years old, U.S. citizens, and Missouri residents for one year preceding the school board election. They were also required to physically reside in the district for which they ran.

To get on the ballot, candidates had to file a declaration of intent in person and in writing by January 16, 2018. Candidates also had to sign a statement that acknowledged their receipt of both a notice of their obligation to file a personal financial disclosure statement and a copy of the summary of laws from the Missouri Ethics Commission.

The election was canceled due to lack of opposition. Incumbent Kimberlee Ried and Kyla Yamada won election by default.[1]

Park Hill School District is located in northwest Missouri in Platte County. The seat of county government is Platte City. Platte County was home to 96,096 residents between 2010 and 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2] The district served 11,537 students during the 2015-16 school year.[3]

Demographics

Platte County outperformed Missouri as a whole in terms of higher education attainment from 2011 to 2015. The United States Census Bureau found that 40.4 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree or higher, compared to 27.1 percent of state residents. The median household income in the county was $68,254, compared to $48,173 for the entire state. County residents lived below the poverty level at a rate of 7.6 percent, while that rate was 14.8 percent for state residents.[2]
