Park entrance fees vary from state to state and, sometimes, between different parks within a state. The report below details the lowest possible fee a state charges for an in-state resident to enter a state park. In some cases, fees are higher for out of state residents.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • As of April 2018, the average fee to enter a state park was $5.48, excluding states that do not charge a fee. The average cost to purchase an annual pass was $59.76, excluding states where parks are free.
  • As of April 2018, 10 states did not charge any park entrance fees. The two states with the highest fee ($10) were California and Washington.
  • As of April 2018, 39 states charged for annual park passes. The state with the highest fee was Kansas ($202.50), while the state with the lowest fee was Idaho, where residents can purchase a $10 license plate sticker.
