Two of the five seats on the Pasco County Schools school board would have been up for primary election on August 30, 2016. Newcomer Colleen Beaudoin filed for the open District 2 seat and District 4 incumbent Alison Crumbley filed for another term on the board. Both were unopposed in their bids when the county's filing deadline passed. The election for both the seats was canceled and they were automatically elected.[1]
Florida school board elections function differently than elections of this kind in most states. Primary elections for Florida school boards were held on August 30, 2016, though primaries are functionally general elections. A general election was held on November 8, 2016, between the top two vote recipients in any race where no candidate receives the majority of votes. Unopposed elections were canceled and did not appear on the ballot. Special elections were held in conjunction with some general elections to fill vacancies.
