Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Cardwell's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Defunding Obamacare: Obamacare is a healthcare and job destroyer. This terrible piece of legislation has cost thousands of citizens their healthcare plans, racked up trillions in debt, and has wreaked havoc on the private sector. I will vote to defund Obamacare and replace it with a free market based healthcare system that will provide coverage to Americans at a cost they can afford.
  • Economic Freedom and Debt: The greatest threat to our future is the uncontrolled debt and insatiable spending of our out-of-control Congress. Every child born in America today already owes more than $160,000 to Chinese banks and U.S. bondholders. Congress has burdened the next generation with enormous debt for what? For massive bailouts and backroom deals? I will vote NO to more debt by not voting to raise the debt ceiling!
  • Effectively Funding Our Military: Defense budgets are in shambles. Our Generals on the battlefield SHOULD be make decisions about defense spending NOT politicians, lobbyists, and defense contractors. As your Congressman I pledge to vote to invest in technology, weapons, and armor to keep the best fighting force on the planet safe when they are in harm’s way and, most important, to rely on the men and women on the ground to best judge how to spend our defense resources.
  • Pro-Life: It is an insult to taxpayers that members of Congress profess to be pro-life and fiscal conservatives – yet they can’t even bring themselves to defund Planned Parenthood. That is neither honest nor accountable. I will push tirelessly to correct this sham. “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” was the mission statement of our Declaration of Independence. It should still mean something today.
  • Pro-Second Amendment: The bedrock of a free society is an individual’s Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. As your Congressman, I will adamantly defend your right to own a firearm and will be a champion for your sacred right to bear arms.
