Patricia graduated from Southern Utah University with a B.S. in History Education and a minor of Geography. After completing her student teaching at Cedar High School and spending a semester substituting in Iron County School district, Patricia’s plan to become a teacher crashed with the economy in 2008 and she landed in the Software as a Service industry. During her time working for growing companies, Patricia gained experience in quality assurance, project management, and team leadership. Most importantly, she learned to assess challenges quickly and develop whatever skills were necessary to complete the task in front of her. An ability that has served her well as she has spent the last few years doing freelance work for various companies while primarily focusing on her family. The people of Utah face any number of challenges and they deserve real solutions, not sound bites. Patricia is running to represent all of Utah Senate District 28, not just those who support her campaign. Good government is about people and the best government considers ideas and perspectives from a wide variety of voices, including subject matter experts and the everyday people who are impacted by government decisions.
  • Good government is about people. When parties fight, people lose.
  • Quality education is an essential pillar of both a prosperous society and a healthy democracy. Teachers and school districts require support and resources as they partner with parents to help students succeed. They also need flexibility to meet the unique challenges of their specific schools and students. Students suffer when education policy becomes a pawn of partisan agendas.
  • Integrity is essential to a healthy society and a functioning government. Moral integrity to uphold oaths of office and the rule of law. Intellectual integrity to both stand up for truth and challenge our understanding when faced with new information.
I am passionate about making the government work for the people. First, by including a wide variety of voices, including both subject matter experts and community members, as we work toward finding real solutions to complex problems. Second, by implementing important reforms such as open primaries, alternative voting methods, fair redistricting, term limits, and meaningful public review for government actions.
The two most important characteristics of any elected official are integrity and perspective. Integrity to uphold their oath of office, even when it is inconvenient or difficult. Perspective to remember the purpose of their office and who they represent.
My varied career opportunities and love of reading have exposed me to a wide variety of topics and diverse viewpoints. My professional writing experience, in particular, has allowed me to develop the ability to learn and analyze information quickly in order to communicate it effectively.

Legislation covers an almost endless variety of topics and specialities. The experience to engage with and absorb new information could only be an asset to a state senator.
I worked for our family owned electronics company from a young age until college graduation. During college I also held other jobs such as working as a student aid or being an attendant at a mini-golf course.

My first post college job was as a software tester at a startup software company. I worked there for about a year before being laid off as part of mass cuts that affected more than half the employees.
I believe it is beneficial for state legislatures to include individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds. Varied perspectives and life experiences allow for innovative ideas and well thought out solutions.
I favor independent redistricting methods that remove partisan influence from the redistricting process.
Compromise is necessary for any representative government. Good faith cooperation and honest attempts to find common ground are both essential to effective government.
