Patricia L. Cohen is a federal magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Her term began in 2016 upon the retirement of Magistrate Thomas Mummert III. [1]

Cohen was formerly a judge on the Eastern District of the Missouri Court of Appeals. She was appointed to this position in September 2003 and retained by voters in 2004. Her term would have expired on December 31, 2016.[2]

Education

Cohen was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1978 and her J.D. from Cornell University School of Law in 1982.[2]

Professional career

Cohen began her legal career as a law clerk to Judge Jean Hamilton of the Missouri Court of Appeals. She then worked as a private practice lawyer from 1982 to 1997.

Judicial career

In September of 1997, Cohen became a circuit judge on the 22nd Judicial Circuit. She held this position until her appointment to the Missouri Court of Appeals in 2003.[2]
